Remembering the hot summer days in Texas and cold ice cream out of the crank freezer. We usually made ice cream on Sunday afternoons, after church. It was a great gathering of family and neighbors under the shade trees. My grandfather and uncle would man the freezer but sometimes they let the grandkids crank a few times in the beginning. One of our favorites was strawberry ice cream.

FOLLOWING THE DREAM - Charlotte and I met in late 1979 when we both worked at Lawrence Livermore Laboratories. We both dreamed of a simpler life, so in 1981, we literally "dropped out" and lived off the grid for the next six years. We mined for gold, cut and sold firewood, did yard work, painted houses... whatever it took to put food on the table. We relished the simple lifestyle and the total serenity of the wilderness. That was just the beginning of a life of adventure and "taking the road less traveled". In 1988 we moved to "town" and began a new adventure.
